Irish Film Club - Thursday 4 May

Thursday, 4 May 2017 - 7:00pm

The Irish film club is led by tutor Steve Martin, and looks at Irish film and the Irish in film. It aims to show all aspects of the Irish world through a medium that’s now finding its feet in Irish culture. Every week the group has some impassioned debates and watch some great movies.

Ireland has a long history of emotional articulation and storytelling through creative mediums, and film is one of the more modern modes of expression. Until recently, Irish film has had to punch above its weight, like a Mexican boxer, making the most of its meagre resources and drawing upon its imaginative powers. With great actors such as Michael mac Liammoir, Richard Harris, Saoirse Ronan, Gabriel Byrne, Aidan Gillen and Daniel Day Lewis, and fine filmmakers like Neil Jordan, Jim Sheridan and Lenny Abrahamson. The Irish film industry is going from strength to strength.
