Though we are all living with the Covid epidemic, it is fair to say that older people have really suffered and their basic human rights have been endangered. So, it seems appropriate that this week we begin to screen the six-part series ‘A Good Age’ from The Loopline Collection. This was a ground-breaking series that tackled head-on the myths and misconceptions that result in AGEISM and seems as relevant today as it was on its first broadcast in 1997.
‘Ageism’, the first film in this series tackles the everyday myths and misconceptions that result in ageism. This episode explores ‘the propaganda of old age’ – mainly the senior citizen concerns of aging and illness, sexuality, and self-worth. The episode also interrogates the common prejudices surrounding the aging process and we are urged to consider a more positive attitude to growing old. The film tackles head-on the myths and misconceptions that result in ageism.
