Today in our Artists’ Corner we bring you local photographer Franco Chen. Born in Jamaica of Chinese heritage, Franco became resident photographer at the Irish Cultural Centre when it opened in 1995. He has taken hundreds of photos of many of the bands and artists who performed here over the years and he’s captured so many ICC magical moments. During the next few weeks we will bring you some of his photos and we’ll give you a glimpse of Franco’s unique eye and intuitive gift as a London street photographer.
The first photographs from Franco Chen’s gallery are images of the renowned Irish actor Tony Rohr. In his long and illustrious career Tony appeared in Friel’s ‘Translations’ at The National and ‘Faith Healer’ at The Royal Court;’ ‘The Plough And The Stars’ at The Gaiety, Dublin, ‘The Weir’ at The Duke Of Yorks. His films include ‘The Long Good Friday’, also ‘Angel’ and ‘High Spirits’ directed by Neil Jordan and ‘The Yeats Trilogy’ directed by Patrick Bergin. On T.V. he appeared in ‘Father Ted’, ‘Prime Suspect’ and ‘Harry Game’.
