As part of our commitment to diversity we at the Irish Cultural Centre recognise the importance of taking a stand against all forms of racism. We therefore want to take this opportunity to declare our full support for the Black Lives Matter campaign.
As a cultural institution we are committed to exploring, sharing and promoting Irish culture through arts, education and community activities. Going forward we recognise the need to challenge ourselves by expanding the more traditional definitions and discourses of Ireland, Irishness and Irish culture. We have a responsibility to purposefully and actively seek out and provide a platform in our cultural programme for the voices of the black communities in Ireland and black Irish people in the UK, as these are narrated and reflected through music, literature, art, film and dance.
The ICC Board members will be working closely with our staff and volunteers to address this. We look forward to sharing further details in due course.
