Poetry: Michael Longley
At the age of 80, Michael Longley remains one of the most constantly significant poets on the island of Ireland and beyond. Longley’s extensive work presents the reader with a life of intense personal reflection and preoccupation with identity and death, made only more poignant when intertwined with his joyous celebration of day-to-day domestic life and the natural world.
On this course, Nathaniel McAuley will guide you through the poetry of Longley built around the foundation of their extended interview Gradual As Flowers, Gradual As Rust carried out across 2015. Students will, in turn, have the opportunity to produce their own creative work for analysis and workshopping by their peers.
