Last week ICC Digital brought you a heart-warming greeting and a song specially sung for you by Ireland’s legendary country singer-songwriter Brendan Quinn and we promised we would soon be bringing you a video of his new single. Well here it is, Brendan’s new lockdown-themed single “Will We Ever Be Free”. He will soon be announcing a full new album too!
Living in Lockdown has been hard for everyone, but particularly so for the over 70s, and this is what Brendan Quinn has to say about his experience…
“Not being able to do what I’ve been doing for 50 odd years came as a bit of shock! Everything just stopped last February …… no more music. I had a 14 day tour lined up for May, gigs and festivals over the summer, all cancelled. But I tried to stay positive, I walked most every day and started to stream gigs live on Facebook from my front room. I did it every day for 100 days and I reckon I sang about 700 songs. I really enjoyed interacting with all the folk online. It’s just not the same as playing in front of an audience but it kept me connected to my music.”
A true star of the Irish country music scene, Armagh born Brendan Quinn has recorded more than 12 albums and has appeared at many of the world’s top country music festivals. He’s shared stages with country music legends Merle Haggard, George Jones, Don Williams, Gene Watson and Hal Ketchum, he’s had many ‘Number 1 Hits’ and he’s recorded with the greats in Irish music, including the late great Arty McGlynn and also Henry McCullough.
Brendan started out in the music business over 55 years ago, at the age of 15, playing with the ‘The Malachi Doris Ceili Band’ and with many great Irish showbands and he is still going strong today! This beautiful new single “Will We Ever Be Free” demonstrates exactly why he continues to be regarded as one of Ireland’s great country singer songwriters.
