This interview features author Emma Donoghue in conversation with Anne Flaherty.

About Emma Donoghue

Since her first ground-breaking and award-winning novels, Stir-Fry (1994) and Hood (1995) Emma has become a prolific novelist, short story writer, literary historian and playwright. Amongst other works, she has written 13 novels, 5 collections of short stories and 17 radio plays.

She is best known for her international bestseller Room which was shortlisted for the Man Booker and won Irish Novel of the Year 2010, New York Times Best Book of 2010 and The Commonwealth Prize for Fiction (2011). The film Room won numerous awards and her adapted screenplay was nominated for an Academy Award, a Golden Globe and a Bafta award. Emma has also won the 2011 National Lesbian and Gay Federation (Ireland) Person of the Year, and the 2016 AWB Vincent American Ireland Funds Literary Award.

About Anne Flaherty

A journalist born in London and growing up in County Clare, Anne has worked for The Irish Press in Dublin and The Irish Times in Belfast as well as reporting from Africa and Asia. She is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin, and holds an MA in Anglo-Irish Writing from Queen’s University Belfast and an MA in Children’s Literature from the University of Surrey.
