The Poor Ground

As Saint Brigid’s week draws to a close, in our ‘Out of the blue corner’ we bring you this beautiful video and song, THE POOR GROUND, in order to hold a candle to the memory and honour of The Tuam Babies and their Mothers .

Victoria Keating, Aine O’Gorman and Jamie Kelly wrote the song when the presence of a mass grave in Tuam was first discovered in 2017. They recently completed the song, after it was announced that the records relating to the Mother and Baby Homes in Ireland would be sealed for thirty years.

The purpose of the song is to ensure that no matter what the political outcome may be, these children, their Mothers and their families must never ever be forgotten.

The song was recorded, mixed and mastered by Martin Leahy. Photographs in the video are from Abandoned West Cork, and the lyrics in the video are hand written by Aine’s ten year old son Rowan Lynch.
