Bright Side of The Road #8 – Featuring the Devines

Tune into Near FM 90.3 on Wednesday March 31st, to hear the ICC’s radio show ‘Bright Side Of The Road’, featuring the foot-stomping trio, the ‘Devines’ who recently performed in the ICC’s film series “The ICC Seisiúns”.

John and Caz  Devine and their son Joe Devine are three members of the same musical family. A vibrant and exciting acoustic trio, they perform a mix of original songs, unique and contemporary arrangements of folk songs and their own unique brand of Irish ‘trad’, on an array of instruments including uilleann pipes, banjo and saxophone, which together create a big and powerful sound.

Touring internationally since 2011, the ‘Devines’ made history when they were the first musicians ever to perform Irish music at a Royal reception in Buckingham Palace.

This week’s show will open up with the track ‘Hiroshima Nagasaki, Russian Roulette’ from Ireland’s super-group Moving Hearts and then the show will play stunning music from the Devines ICC Seisiún, which  includes tunes from Donal Lunny,  Cathal McConnell and Niall Vallely, plus a great version of the Irish trad tune ‘old woman get up and shake yourself’

Henry Scott Irvine presents the weekly Irish music and arts show, with special guests, the ICC’s Cultural Director, Rosalind Scanlon and Film-maker Sé Merry Doyle, who directed the series of 14 lockdown concerts, “The ICC Seisiúns”.
