Altan: Celebrating 40 Years of Music and Heritage
Join Altan, one of Ireland’s most cherished traditional bands, as they commemorate four decades of musical mastery with a special 40th Anniversary Concert. Formed in 1985 by Belfast flutist Frankie Kennedy and Donegal fiddler and singer Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh, Altan has been at the forefront of bringing the rich musical traditions of Donegal to audiences worldwide.
This milestone event will feature a journey through their extensive repertoire, including beloved classics and selections from their recent album Donegal, which pays homage to their roots.Experience the band’s signature blend of soulful ballads and spirited reels, performed with the passion and precision that have earned them international acclaim.

This concert Sailing To Byzantium will feature a selection of 12 beautiful settings of poems by W.B Yeats taken from Christine’s award winning album of the same name, for which she won a British Composer Award, (IVORS AWARD). The poems are chosen from Yeats’s early work through to his final collection and include love poems such as When You Are Old, written for the unattainable love of his life Maud Gonne; also Yeats’s poems Sailing To Byzantium and Long-legged Fly’; plus a chance to hear Christine’s awesome interpretation of Yeats’s “The Wild Swans at Coole” and her haunting rendition of “The Song of Wandering Aengus”.
