Storytelling with Kate Corkery

With Special Guest Helen East and Musician Rick Wilson

Bar Open 7pm

Starts 8pm

Tickets £8

Kate is an Irish storyteller with a background in acting, singing and language teaching. Born and educated in Cork, she originally left Ireland to work in Kenya, after which she moved to Europe, performing in a variety of theatres before joining UK-based Common Lore, a company of storyteller/musicians from different folkloric backgrounds.

Storyteller Helen East– ‘ leading light in the storytelling revival’, founder of Common Lore and author of many publications including “London Folktales” for which she received The Storytelling World Resource Reward 2015 shares her favourite sea stories  from the west coast of Wales  and Scotland , up to Orkney and Shetland. Most of her stories of seals and sea creatures were told to her by dear friends from Scottish Traveller people, above all from the wonderful Duncan Williamson, who carried generations of stories in his head, passed down “mouth to mouth” in true oral tradition.

These beautifully told , enriching traditional tales, will be accompanied by the ‘strong, singular and sympathetic’ music of Rick Wilson, who  underpins the words with melody and rhythms on a range of extraordinary instruments gathered on his worldwide travels.

Look forward to an enchanting evening where one moment we are held in concentrated stillness, the next we are swept away on the crest of a wild exciting rhythm.
