Troubles, Tragedy and Trauma: Women in Northern Ireland Politics
Conference chaired by former President of Ireland, Mary McAleese
Tickets: £10/£8 (concs)
For most of its existence, politics in Northern Ireland was almost exclusively male dominated. However, since the Good Friday Agreement there has been a substantial increase in the number and influence of women politicians there to the extent that currently the leaders of three political parties in the Northern Ireland Assembly are female.
The latest ICC annual conference on politics and society in Northern Ireland since the Good Friday Agreement will hear the personal political journeys of: Margaret Ritchie (SDLP), Claire Sugden (Independent Unionist), Avila Kilmurray (Northern Ireland Women’s Coalition) , Michelle Gildernew MP (Sinn Féin), Sorcha Eastwood (Alliance Party).
SORCHA EASTWOOD: Executive member of the Alliance Party of Northern Ireland. Candidate for Northern Ireland Assembly and Parliamentary Candidate for West Belfast in 2017 general election.
