Heritage Trail Map of London Irish in Hammersmith and Fulham

Come and join us for the launch of the London Irish Heritage Trail Map.

Join us on Tuesday, April 21st at 7 pm for the launch of our Heritage Trail Map of the London Irish in Hammersmith & Fulham, titled ‘Then and Now’. There will be a screening of a short compilation film of all the interviews, which will be available to view afterwards via QR codes on the map.

This new heritage trail map, a four-month project, brought together students from the local Sacred Heart High School, in Hammersmith Road, to work alongside older people from the Irish community to uncover the borough’s important Irish connections.

We have shone a light on the borough’s most significant Irish people and places such as the Emerald Dance hall and Yeat’s sisters, the textile artists, Lilly and Lolly Yeats, by creating a dedicated heritage map with the help of a grant from H&F’s King Charles III Coronation Youth Fund.

The Year 12 and 13 pupils explored archive documents including newspapers, photos and journals from H&F’s archive at Hammersmith Library in Shepherds Bush Road, as well as the special collection Archive of the Irish in Britain at London Metropolitan University.

The young people developed short films under the direction of the talented film-maker, Conor MacMahon, for each of the locations highlighted on the heritage map. Each place will have a QR codes to link you to the short film.

Tickets £5

Price includes a glass of prosecco, canapes, an interactive trail map and the screening of a short film composed of segments from the heritage trail interviews.
