Irish Intergenerational Film and Exhibition Night
Over the past six months, the ICC and our local Sacred Heart High School have been collaborating to create a documentary and a photography exhibition. Twenty two students from Year 9 have interviewed six Irish elders who emigrated to London in the middle of the twentieth century. They found out about their life story growing up in Ireland, what their experiences have been like since moving to London, their opinions of the younger generation in London and how they became involved with the Irish Cultural Centre. This involved students also developing and using skills in interviewing, Photography, Cinematography and Editing.
This project culminates in a screening of the film as well as a portrait gallery of the elders and photos taken during the interview process. The students will be presenting a creative response on the night of what they have learned about their elder, including poems, songs, acting sketches and photo collages.
A special thank you to our elders whose generosity of spirit was so evident throughout this intergenerational project.’
