MAGPIE
Blood Ties Torn by War, Bound by Fate.
A Gripping New Drama by Andrew Cusack
Presented at the ICC – London’s Premiere Centre for Irish Arts & Culture
Two Brothers Divided by Hate. Reunited by Fate.
Set within the cold, haunted walls of Kilmainham Gaol during the height of Ireland’s Civil War in 1923, Magpie tells the searing story of Michael and Patrick Murphy—brothers on opposite sides of a bitter, blood-soaked divide. One, a battle-scarred IRA gunman. The other, a Free State jailer. As their worlds collide, Magpie dives deep into fractured loyalties, the brutality of war, and the human cost of a divided nation.

A Haunting Exploration of Loyalty, Loss, and Legacy
After a decade of relentless conflict—World War I, the War of Independence, and Civil War—Ireland stands shattered. Families are broken, communities torn apart. In this crucible of chaos, Magpie asks: What survives when ideology demands everything?
Written by and starring Andrew Cusack, with Johnjoe Irwin and Gavin Stewart, and directed by Dylan McGloin, Magpie is a bold, unforgettable piece of theatre that refuses to look away from the wounds of history—and their resonance today.
