Liam Ó Maonlaí in Concert
Tickets £22.50 / £20.00 (concs)
Liam Ó Maonlaí is one of the most talented, charismatic and soulful performers of Irish traditional music today. But his musical prowess goes beyond his own cultural roots as he blends an eclectic mix of folk, blues, gospel, soul, rock, and more with his amazing vocals and an array of instrumental mastery from piano to flute, harmonica to bodhran.
A singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, an actor, artist, painter, dancer…. Ó Maonlaí possesses more talent than most folks can even begin to dream of! He has been acclaimed as one of Ireland’s best sean nóssingers and Bono has described him as “the best white boy soul singer in the world,”. In 1985, along with his friend Fiachna Ó Braonáin, Ó Maonlaí formed the internationally extolled Irish supergroup ‘Hothouse Flowers’, who produced over half a dozen hit albums; (their first album, ‘People’, was the most successful debut album in Irish history, reaching No. 1 in Ireland and No. 2 in the UK.) While continuing to be the frontman with HotHouse Flowers, (with whom he has just completed a world tour,) over the past two decades Ó Maonlaí also carved out a hugely successful solo career, which has seen him release two solo albums, ‘Rian’ and ‘To Be Touched’, (the former of which was turned into a dance show with Irish choreographer and director Michael Keegan-Dolan.) He has hadnumber-one hits in over 20 countries, from playing with Aboriginal musicians in the Australian outback to recording with some of the world’s best-known musicians, including Glen Hansard, Markéta Irglová, Carlos Núñez, Dónal Lunny, U2, Paddy Keenan and Van Morrison, to name just a few!! Always re-inventing himself with every performance, he continues to wow audiences worldwide. It is a great pleasure for The Irish Cultural Centre to present LiamÓ Maonlaí, who is undoubtedly one of the greatest musicians in the world today.
