‘THE UNWANTED’

CATHY JORDAN, SEAMIE O’DOWD AND RICK EPPING

Doors 7.15pm

Starts 8.00pm

Tickets £15/13 (concession)

Cathy Jordan, the awesome lead singer for the acclaimed group DERVISH, comes together with Dervish’s amazing guitarist and fiddle player, Seamie O’Dowd;  joining them will be Californian musician Rick Epping. Together they are ‘The Unwanted’– and they will bring you the most beautiful songs and tunes of the Atlantic Fringe – the combined traditions from Ireland to Appalachia and beyond; the music and songs are the result of generations of movement and migration, of leave-taking and homecoming, back and forth across the ocean in an endless tide of cultural exchange brought to you by three exceptional musicians, each with a lifetime dedication to their music.

Roscommon born Cathy Jordan, moves effortlessly and with soaring voice between Sean-nós, Appalachian ballad and contemporary folksong. Sligo native Séamus O’Dowd (guitar, fiddle, harmonica,) grew up steeped in the tradition of Sligo fiddling and is as accomplished playing blues on slide guitar as he is playing jigs and reels. Rick Epping (harmonica, concertina, banjo, jaw harp), a native of California, played with musical greats as varied as Bill Monroe, Texas bluesman Mance Lipscomb and Irish accordionist Joe Cooley. Together, The Unwanted demonstrate a deep understanding and appreciation of the music of both the Old World and the New. Wherever they perform, The Unwanted are finding that they are loudly applauded and very much wanted indeed.
