Nollaig na mBan – A Celebration of Women
Nollaig na mBan (Women’s Christmas) is a cherished Irish tradition that takes place on 06 January, marking the end of the Christmas season. Historically, this day was a time for women to rest and relax after the busy festive period, while men took over household duties. It became an opportunity for women to come together, share stories, and celebrate their roles in family and community life.
This cultural practice is deeply rooted in Ireland’s history, symbolising the importance of women’s contributions and fostering a sense of solidarity and camaraderie. Today, Nollaig na mBan continues to be a powerful reminder of community, resilience, and the celebration of women.
Join us at the Irish Cultural Centre as we mark this special day with a lively traditional music session, bringing women and friends together for an evening of song, story, and connection. Celebrate the spirit of Nollaig na mBan with us!
