OPEN MIC – On The EVE of BLOOMSDAY
We invite you all to come gather on the eve of Bloomsday to the ICC’s Foyer bar, to raise a toast to celebrate Leopold Bloom and all the characters in James Joyce’s great book Ulysses!
Why? Because in Blooms week, special celebrations take place in Dublin and all
around the Globe, to celebrate 16 June 1904, the day depicted in James Joyce’s
master novel Ulysses. The day is named after Leopold Bloom, the central character in Ulysses the book, which follows the life and thoughts of Leopold Bloom and a host of other characters – real and fictional – from 8am on 16 June 1904 through to the early hours of the following morning.
Ulysses is one of the world’s most amazing books, which at the time of it’s
publication, rocked, shifted and changed the entire course of literature; it was
published 103 years ago, in 1922, and is still being read by readers and study
groups all over the world today!! So come along, dare to do a reading and
celebrate!!!
Why don’t you dress up like the characters in the book. Dare to dress up as Mr
Bloom Or Molly! Come wearing straw boaters hats, come in your in their finery have a literary ball, or just come along as you are! Dare to do a reading, recite a bit of prose or a poem by Jimmy Joyce, or sing a ditty, or a Dublin song, or do anything that tickles your Bloomin’ Fancy!
