Owen O’Neill: Work in Progress – I could write a Book about it

Owen O’Neill has written a book about it and in his new show, he takes a humorous and excoriating look at how he did it, why he did it and who were the people from his rebellious past who inspired it. Acting out scenes from the book using film clips and music.

Patrick McCabe has called it a carnivalesque rockabilly narrative with a profoundly moving conclusion.

Phil Jupitus described it as A raw and lively tale. Tender and hilarious.

Glen Patterson said A gem of a book. Tom Joad and Me sings and zings. O’Neill writes like the novel is his natural home.

If you ever wanted to write a book…this is the show for you…and if you’ve never wanted to write one, you definitely won’t after seeing this.

O’Neills writing is always riveting without being sensationalised
or over dramatic. There is a smell of truth about it. Scotland
on Sunday

O’Neill has a secure handle on macabre humour whilst also
being able to weave between the banal and the ludicrous. His
animated physical performance gives it an added dimension.
