“Scrooge – A Christmas Carol” – A Special Christmas Screening

As a special Christmas treat, the ICC's monthly Irish Film Club presents a free screening of “Scrooge – A Christmas Carol” Directed by Brian Desmond Hurst Starring Alistair Sim, Mervyn Johns, Kathleen Harrison, Michael Hordern and George Cole. Made in 1951. Length: 95 minutes.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Professor Lance Pettitt author of “The Last Bohemian” the biography of one of Ireland’s most prolific directors, Brian Desmond Hurst. Lance will be interviewed by Steve Martin, curator of the ICC’s Irish Film Club.
In Scrooge, Belfast-born Hurst offers the standout screen version of Dickens’ story and the ever-versatile Alastair Sim is impeccable as the miser who comes to see the error of his ways through the promptings of the spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Future.
Adapted from A Christmas Carol (1843) by Charles Dickens, the film faithfully portrays the shadowy London that Dickens described.
Directed with true finesse by the great Brian Desmond Hurst.
“This is easily the best screen version of the much loved yuletide tale…a real Christmas treat, not to be missed.” Radio Times
Contains excerpts from some Christmas carols, including Silent Night and Hark The Herald Angels Sing…
