‘Around the Fireside’
with Kate Corkery and Sharon Jacksties
Plus Open Floor Spots
Kate is an Irish storyteller with a background in acting, singing and language teaching. Born and educated in Cork, she originally left Ireland to work in Kenya, after which she moved to Europe, performing in a variety of theatres before joining UK-based Common Lore, a company of storyteller/musicians from different folkloric backgrounds.
This month she will be joined by the fantastic Sharon Jacksties.
Sharon blows in on the Westerly winds of Autumn from her home near the Isle of Avalon. Telling stories from the blessed Isle of Apples and beyond, she will draw you close to their warmth as they glow through the growing darkness and rising mists at this magical time of year.
Sharon Jacksties has been telling traditional tales of wonder and delight for over 25 years. Working here and abroad, she has been happy telling stories to all ages in venues that vary from bus shelters to the National Theatre. She shares stories from all over the world, some of which have not been heard on these islands before (or so she is told!). She teaches storytelling at Halsway Manor, England’s only residential centre for the traditional arts, and has recently returned from Romania where she teaches regularly. Celebrating her adopted county of Somerset she has written Somerset Folk Tales for The History Press and welcomed the publication of the children’s version this spring. Born in London, one of her first jobs was working with the Unicorn Children’s Theatre and before discovering storytelling she enjoyed a varied career in community theatre and dance, which influence both her performance style and applied storytelling practise with groups varying from the elderly to refugees.
