Workshop

Walking & Writing, 1-Day Creative Writing Workshop with Demi Anter

As writers, we can forage for stories, just as others forage for sustenance. On this creative foraging walk through London we will slow down, look, touch and listen. Led by writer Demi Anter, this workshop will help us practice the art of paying attention and learn new ways to write the city blocks we stroll down every day.

The session will consist of reading and discussion of literature from a range of disciplines, a guided walk through Hammersmith, accessible writing exercises, and feedback.

Together we will use the details we glean from the city to reimagine our day-to-day environment, find inspiration from history, and create new stories that are totally our own.

Who is it for: All writers are welcome. This workshop is open to new writers as well as experienced writers. Please note that you will never be forced to share anything you’ve written, but there will be opportunities to do so if you wish.

What to bring: Please bring something to write with (ideally a pen and notebook), comfortable walking shoes, and a water bottle. Optional: A picnic blanket in case there is a chance to sit and work outside for a spell. You are also welcome to bring snacks to eat throughout the workshop.

Accessibility: The session will be a mix of walking and sitting; please be prepared to be on your feet for some time (approximately 1.5 hours), and for being outdoors. For any questions, concerns, or accommodation requests, please write to us and your message will be passed on to the workshop facilitator.

Delving into Dubliners – A Talk with Donal Manning

Born in Dublin, Donal Manning brings a lifetime of study and reflection to James Joyce’s Dubliners, his most widely read work. Though deceptively simple, close study of the stories uncovers rich layers of meaning and context. In this talk, Donal discusses the collection in general and concentrates on several selected stories to show that close engagement with Dubliners is a deeply rewarding exercise.
