Tune in to Near FM 90.3 on Wednesday March 24th at 11.30pm for the next episode of ‘Bright Side of the Road’. This week focuses on the Irish flute and fiddle, shining a spotlight on two rising stars of Irish traditional music, James Carty and Eimear McGeown, who recently appeared in the ICC’s film series ‘The ICC Seisúins’.
The London born James Carty is one of the finest young Irish fiddle players of his generation. He possesses a distinctive style which he developed having grown up listening to the Sligo music masters. As a solo musician James has performed all over Ireland, the UK, Canada and the USA and recently completed his first solo album, Hiding Daylight in Dark Corners.
Flautist Eimear McGeown has garnered a reputation as being one of the world’s most versatile performers on classical and Irish flute and has received many awards including the ‘Camerata Ireland Young Musician of the Year Award’. Eimear is a twice ‘All Ireland’ champion and she recently released her debut album ‘Inis’. As a soloist Eimear has fronted orchestras and played in world class stadiums, including Carnegie Hall and The Royal Albert Hall.
This week’s show will feature music from James and Eimear plus tracks from Kevin Burke, John Carty, Paddy Kiloran and W.B. Yeats reading ‘The Fiddler Of Donney’.
Henry Scott Irvine presents the weekly Irish music and arts show, with special guests, the ICC’s Cultural Director, Rosalind Scanlon and Film-maker Sé Merry Doyle, who directed the series of 14 lockdown concerts, “The ICC Seisiúns”.
