SCRIBENDI: Irish Writers 1982–2025 – Book Launch By Leading Photographer Steve Pyke

Steve will be In-Conversation with Journalist Suzi Feay; Special guest Irish Poet and Writer Martina Evans.

Join the Irish Cultural Centre for the exclusive London launch of SCRIBENDI: Irish Writers 1982–2025, a landmark new book by internationally acclaimed photographer Steve Pyke.

This special evening will feature Steve Pyke in conversation with literary journalist Suzi Feay, with a guest appearance by award-winning Irish poet and writer Martina Evans. Together, they’ll discuss Pyke’s creative process, his long-standing relationship with Irish literature, and the inspiration behind this extraordinary collection.

SCRIBENDI brings together over 100 striking black-and-white portraits of Ireland’s most celebrated writers, including Seamus Heaney, Edna O’Brien, Colm Tóibín, Anne Enright, Kevin Barry and many others. Captured over four decades, the series forms a visual history of Ireland’s literary culture – a tribute to the writers whose words continue to shape the nation’s identity.

Published by The Lilliput Press in partnership with Photo Museum Ireland, the book combines Pyke’s evocative photography with text excerpts and intimate reflections from the writers themselves. Following the discussion, Steve Pyke will sign copies of the book, available to purchase at the event – a perfect Christmas gift for lovers of Irish literature, photography and art.

Don’t miss this exclusive opportunity to meet one of the world’s leading portrait photographers and celebrate the richness and diversity of Irish writing at the Irish Cultural Centre.

About the Book:

Cover of Scribendi: Irish Writers 1982–2025 by Steve Pyke, published by The Lilliput Press — featuring portraits of leading contemporary Irish writers.

SCRIBENDI: Irish Writers 1982–2025 is a beautifully produced hardback book celebrating four decades of Irish writing through the lens of master photographer Steve Pyke. The collection showcases over 100 portraits of Ireland’s greatest literary voices, capturing their depth, personality and creative spirit.

Many of Pyke’s subjects – including Seamus Heaney, Edna O’Brien, Colm Tóibín, Anne Enright and Kevin Barry – have shaped modern Irish literature. Some have since passed away, giving the work a timeless and historical significance. Each portrait is accompanied by a page of text or conversation, offering readers a deeper connection to the writer behind the words.

Published by The Lilliput Press in partnership with Photo Museum Ireland, SCRIBENDI stands as both a stunning photographic archive and a moving tribute to Ireland’s literary heritage.

Copies of the book will be available to purchase and sign at the ICC following the event, or in advance from The Lilliput Press.
