Brigid: UK Book Launch with Kim Curran

As part of the ICC's St Brigid Celebrations.

Join us for the UK launch of Brigid, a powerful, evocative new novel from Kim Curran. With lyrical prose and hauntingly vivid storytelling, Brigid transports readers into a richly imagined world and this launch is your chance to be among the first in the UK to discover it.

The evening will also feature live music from the talented singer-songwriter Katie Phelan, whose evocative sound will set the perfect atmosphere for celebration, and the inspiring poet, Johannah Barrett.

Expect a warm, welcoming gathering, a chance to meet fellow book lovers, hear about the inspiration behind the novel, enjoy Katie and Johannah’s performances, and get your copy signed.

About Kim Curran:

Kim Curran was born in Dublin and grew up in London. She holds a degree in Philosophy and Literature from Sussex University and is a freelance Creative Director and Royal Literary Fund Fellow. Her first book for adults was The Morrigan, a feminist retelling of Irish myths through the eyes of the ancient goddess of fury. This is followed by Brigid, a radical re-imagining of Irelands most beloved saint.

About Katie Phelan:

Katie Phelan is an indie folk-pop artist from Co. Meath, who creates honest, heart-warming and inspired songs of self-expression. Katie’s signature sound is one of cosy soundscapes, delicate vocals, warm acoustic guitar tones and an impressive narrative songwriting style. Since her debut release in 2021, Katie has refined her craft on stages such as Other Voices, Primavera Pro, Breakout West Canada and more. In 2023, Katie had the unique opportunity to represent Ireland as an artist on the Keychange programme. Katie’s debut EP, ‘Blues and Greens, released in June, centres around navigating change, adulthood and moving away from the sea, and further solidifies her sound as a songwriter. Blues and Greens has secured plays on BBC R1’s Future Pop, RTE 2FM’s track of the week and gained support from Clash, Nialler9, District Magazine and more. Off the back of Blues and Greens, Katie hosted bookshop shows in both Dublin and London and shared her music throughout the past year at Night and Day festival, Another Love Story, All Together Now and Other Voices Cardigan.

About Johannah Barrett:

Johannah Barrett PoetJohannah Barrett curates and leads events, tours and talks celebrating under-represented women, their achievements and their literature. Trained in Bibliotherapy, she also teaches Writing for well-being. With a First in Screenwriting, she is a National Poetry Day finalist and has been long-listed for the London Library’s Emerging Writers Programme. She is proud of both her Irish and London heritage and recently hosted a fundraiser for a statue of Maud Gonne at the ICC.
