Workshop Programme:

Kevin Conneff is best known as the voice and rhythm of The Chieftains, a role he has held since 1976. His arrival brought a new dimension to the group’s sound, introducing vocals for the very first time.

Though first drawn to jazz, Kevin discovered his love of traditional Irish music in the 1960s. With a group of workmates, he would hitchhike to fleadhanna ceoil across Ireland—sleeping in hay barns and living off tins of Denny’s stew! He later became a founding member of the Tradition Club at Slattery’s in Dublin, which quickly grew into a celebrated meeting place for traditional music, much as the Irish Cultural Centre does today.

Kevin’s singing remains firmly rooted in the old style—unaccompanied, interpretive, and steeped in tradition. On the bodhrán, he shifts effortlessly from subtle, understated rhythms to powerful, driving beats that can set the whole room alight.

Join us on Monday 22 September at the Irish Cultural Centre in Hammersmith for a special workshop as Kevin shares songs, stories, and rhythms from a lifetime in music.
