The Belfast Bohemian: Brian Desmond Hurst and Irish cinema

Watch a screening of Dangerous Moonlight (Hurst, 1941, b/w 94mins) followed by in-conversation event with a glass of wine to celebrate the life and films of one of Ireland’s most prolific directors.

Moving from war-torn Poland, to London and New York, this “Battle of Britain” matinee features a love-triangle between a Polish airman pianist (Anton Walbrook), an American journalist (Sally Gray) and an Irish RAF pilot (Derrick de Marney), Hurst’s film memorably underscores the ‘Warsaw Concerto’ theme music with the ‘Rose of Tralee’.

Then, join two leading Hurst experts – Prof Lance Pettitt, author of The Last Bohemian, and Dr Stephen Wyatt, co-editor of Hurst on Film – for a discussion about Hurst’s amazing life-story and cinematic achievement. In the chair: Prof Michelle Paull.
