Utterances I

A sound art installation to mark the centenary of the Anglo-Irish Treaty 1921-2021.

Also known as “Articles of Agreement for a Treaty between Great Britain and Ireland”, the Anglo-Irish Treaty is one of the most significant documents in Irish history, and has a centenary on 6th December 2021.

Utterances I is a pre-recorded audio presentation of text from the Treaty, in English and Irish, using voices, sound effects, and music.

The soundscape uses only female voices, as women were excluded from negotiations in 1921.

Photographs of the Treaty will also be on display.

This event is made possible by kind permission of the National Archives of Ireland.

Utterances I is 25 minutes long, and runs between 6th-12th December 2021.
