Catherine Ann Cullen – Brigid’s Cloak

1st January 1970, 12am

As today February 1st is St Brigid’s Day, to mark the occasion ICC Digital is delighted to bring you this charming video, featuring the Poet and Writer Catherine Ann Cullen, singing her song ‘Brigid’s Cloak’.

Catherine Ann wrote and sang the song especially for the ‘Songs for our Children Project’, which was devised and run by Aileen Lambert and Michael Fortune of Enniscorthy, to create a body of new songs in the traditional style for children.

The project, which began in 2018, included 13 traditional singers and songwriters from all over Ireland. Songs were inspired by themes as diverse as mice, the seasons, the story of baby Moses and the legends of Fionn Mac Cumhaill. Each of the singer songwriters made a video of themselves performing their song. The videos can be viewed on a playlist on ‘youtube Songs for our Children Project’.

We hope you enjoy Catherine Ann’s song and we wish you a Happy Saint Brigid’s Day 2022!
