Saint Patrick Week Session – Michael Sweeney

12th March 2021, 12am

As we fast approach Saint Patrick’s Day, each day up until March 18th we will bring you a short film from a series of five recordings made by the ICC’s in-house artists and tutors.

The first film in the series features the ICC’s fiddle tutor, brilliant musician Michael Sweeney, who, from his home in Buckinghamshire, plays some really splendid jigs and reels, including several beautiful tunes all the way from County Donegal where Michael learned to play Irish traditional music under the guidance of the great Donegal fiddle players, James Byrne and Proinsias Ó Maonaigh.

In this heart-warming recording, Michael wishes all the viewers of ICC Digital a very Happy Saint Patrick’s Day. You will see the warmth of Michael’s playing which so clearly demonstrates the excellence of his musicianship.

Michael has produced several records, including ‘A View from Across the Valley, Lough Island Reel’, ‘Ag Críost an Síol’, and a fiddle teaching audio for beginners, ‘Play Along On The Fiddle’, which are all available to buy on BANDCAMP.

If you are interested in learning to play the fiddle, Michael is currently teaching adults and children online, all around the globe.  For more information please see here.
