Today we are very proud to present the first lecture in the ICC’s first ever Digital Lecture Series. For the past 15 years the Irish Cultural Centre has presented a live Spring/Summer Lecture Series, which for the past 10 years focused on the decade of centenaries in Ireland from 1912-1922.
Last year the pandemic forced us to postpone the ICC’s Lecture Series, but we are very happy to bring you this year’s series on ICC Digital. The series, which was curated by the Author, Historian and ICC Trustee Ivan Gibbons, consists of five in-depth and engaging lectures on the theme of Ireland in 1921.
The opening lecture in our Digital Lecture Series is presented by Ivan Gibbons, who informs us of the historical events that led to the creation of Northern Ireland and subsequent events following its establishment.
Ivan Gibbons is the former Director of Irish Studies at St Mary’s University, Twickenham. He is a lecturer in Modern Irish and British History specialising in the relationship between the British Labour Party and Ireland. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Irish Cultural Centre in Hammersmith. Ivan is the author of The British Labour Party and the Establishment of the Irish Free State; Drawing the Line: The Irish Border in British Politics and Partition: How and Why Ireland was Divided.
