Job Description: Bar Supervisor (Key Holder)
Location: On site at the Irish Cultural Centre, Hammersmith
Reports to: Centre Director / Operations Manager
Contract Type: Permanent, Part-time (30 hours per week)
Salary: £15.65 per hour
Hours: 30 hours per week (including evenings and weekends on a rota basis)
About the Irish Cultural Centre
The Irish Cultural Centre (ICC) in Hammersmith is the home of Irish culture in London, offering a vibrant mix of music, theatre, dance, film, education, and community events. The Centre includes a welcoming bar and social area serving members, visitors, and event audiences. We pride ourselves on providing an authentic Irish atmosphere with a focus on community, hospitality, and cultural engagement.
Purpose of the Role
The Bar Supervisor will ensure the smooth and efficient running of the ICC Bar delivering a high standard of service during events and maintaining a friendly and welcoming environment. As a key holder, the post holder will have responsibility for opening and closing the building when on duty and ensuring the safety and security of the premises. This varied role is a key figure in the events, community & education programmes adapting to the changing needs of the centre.
Key Responsibilities
Bar Operations
- Supervise day-to-day bar & event operations to ensure excellent customer service.
- Prepare and serve drinks efficiently and in line with licensing laws.
- Maintain cleanliness and presentation standards across the bar and seating areas.
- Ensure compliance with food hygiene, health and safety, and licensing regulations.
- Assist in managing stock levels, including ordering, deliveries, rotation, and wastage control.
- Assist with high quality event set up
- Work closely with the Operations Manager & Events Manager to ensure all events are executed to a high standard.
- Handle cash and card transactions accurately, including end-of-day reconciliations.
Team Supervision
- Lead bar staff during shifts, ensuring smooth service and teamwork.
- Support the training and induction of new bar staff and volunteers.
- Foster a positive working atmosphere reflecting the ICC’s values of community and hospitality.
Key Holder Duties
- Open and close the Centre as required, ensuring the building is secure at all times.
- Follow security procedures, including alarm systems and safety checks.
- Act as the responsible person on site during certain shifts or events.
Customer Service
- Deliver friendly and professional service to all customers and members.
- Handle customer queries or complaints effectively and in line with ICC policies.
- Promote ICC events and memberships where appropriate.
Administration & Reporting
- Support management with rota planning and staff scheduling as needed.
- Report maintenance, safety, or operational issues promptly.
- Assist with event bar setups, special functions, and community gatherings.
Person Specification
Essential
- Proven experience in a bar or hospitality supervisory role.
- Knowledge of licensing laws and health & safety best practices.
- Confident handling cash, stock control, and bar administration.
- Reliable and trustworthy, with previous key holder experience.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
- A positive, team-oriented attitude with attention to detail.
Desirable
- Personal Licence Holder.
- Experience working in a community or cultural venue.
- Interest in Irish culture and community engagement.
