IFFL 2022 Family Matinee: War of the Buttons

Irish Film London is delighted to revisit the Irish classic War of the Buttons in our family friendly screening as part of Irish Film Festival London 2022.

In the film, the children of Ballydowse and Carrickdowse engage in battles in which they cut off the buttons, shoelaces, and underwear of their captured opponents, in order to get the boys in trouble with their parents. The gangs go to battle throwing stones and getting ever more cunning in their strategies as things escalate. But which side will be victorious?

Also playing today is short film Steppin Up by director Peadar O’ Briain.

Joe is an imaginative young boy who has recently moved to a new house. Joe is finding it hard to fit in with the popular kids and a lot more than an expensive pair of runners stands in his way. Can he step up to the challenge?
