Courtauld Connections at Somerset House – Seamus Heaney Poems

24th November 2022, 3pm

Courtauld Connections at Somerset House: Works from Courtauld Gallery National Partners.

This project was part of a specially curated display of five paintings and drawings by major British artists of the 20th century, including Frank Auerbach, John Piper, Gwen John, Claudette Johnson and Edward McGuire, who painted one of the first portraits of the Irish poet Seamus Heaney. Each partner was invited to select one work from their collection that embodied their institution and their audience. This special film re-examines the exhibition through performances of Seamus Heaney’s poetry by Irish Cultural Centre Hammersmith, featuring Centre Director William Foote and Events Officer Ruby Kearney.
