Nominated for the 2018 Irish Film & Television Awards ‘The 34th – The Story of Marriage Equality in Ireland’ brings you the people behind the organisation Marriage Equality, who campaigned tirelessly for the extension of civil marriage to same sex couples in Ireland. From the KAL case, (Katherine Zappone and Ann Louise Gilligan) and the emotional love story behind it, to a YES vote on 22nd May 2015, this powerful and uplifting documentary spans a decade culminating in the 34th amendment to the Irish constitution, allowing same sex marriage.

The screening is followed by a Q&A with the Film’s Producer, Vanessa Gildea.

The screening of ‘The 34th’ will be preceded by the short film “The Abandoning” Directed by Vanessa Gildea. Produced by Sé Merry Doyle.

The Abandoning is a beautiful short film by Vanessa Gildea. The film creates the memory of a house where the past and present are not separate places. Vanessa uses experimental images influenced by the art of pinhole photography to recall her childhood visits to her Granny’s house in Donegal.
