Andy Martyn LIVE at Irish Cultural Centre Hammersmith (ICC) – ‘Will We Give It A Go’ Album Launch

1st January 1970, 12am

We are thrilled to bring you this short film of highlights from Andy Martyn’s fabulous album launch concert, which took place here at the ICC in March 2022.

Andy Martyn is undoubtedly the greatest virtuoso, button accordion player on the Irish music scene in London and, as you will see from this film, he’s also a man with great stage presence!

To celebrate the launch of his magnificent new album, “Will We Give It A Go”, Andy brought with him three more phenomenal Irish music prodigies – ‘Bodhran Maestro’, Gino Lupari, wizard of the banjo, John Carty and the superb guitarist Matt Griffin – and, as you will see in this film, they certainly deliver a mighty blast of Irish music, raising the ICC rafters and having the audience shout for more!

This film is directed and edited by Sé Merry Doyle and features some stunning close-ups and camera work, (from Sé and Ruby Kearney). It really does capture the magic of that terrific evening.

“Will We Give It A Go” is Andy’s debut solo release; Described as a landmark recording of traditional Irish music in London, the CD features 14 tracks and combines some of Martyn’s own compositions with his unique interpretations of Irish airs, reels and other traditional tunes. Produced by Gerry Diver, the album features a host of Irish music luminaries, including John Carty, Gino Lupari, Matt Griffin, Michael McGoldrick, Trevor Hutchinson, Elaine Conwell, Sinead Egan, Tad Sargeant, Kevin Boyle, and Barney Morse-Brown. There is also a new composition dedicated to Andy’s late great music tutor, the great fiddle player Brendan Mulkere and a track in honour of the fiddle player Danny Meehan.
