ICC Literary Festival Highlights – Séamas O’Reilly in conversation with Anne Flaherty

For those of you who were unable to attend our recent literary festival, A Celebration of Contemporary Irish Writing, you will have an opportunity to view some of the festival highlights on our website and on ICC Digital.

On Monday 13th December you will be able to access the festival launch which comprised an interview between Séamas O’Reilly and Anne Flaherty, where Séamas discusses his memoir Did Ye Hear Mammy Died?

On Wednesday 15th December you will be able to access an interview between Colm Tóibín and Carlo Gébler where Colm discusses his recent novel The Magician

On Friday 17th December you will be able to access the event which closed our literary festival: a recorded interview between our esteemed patron, Edna O’Brien and Dr Maureen O’Connor.

 

SÉAMAS O’REILLY is a journalist and columnist for The Observer and writes about politics and media for The Irish Times, New Statesman, Guts and VICE. He is also features editor for The Fence magazine. His bestselling memoir Did Ye Hear Mammy Died? – of growing up with ten siblings and his widowed father in 90’s rural Derry against a background of The Troubles – was published to critical acclaim in July this year. The title of the book comes from the question that, as a bewildered five year old, he asked people at his mother’s wake. It deftly sets the tone for this poignant, deeply moving yet funny and wry account of dealing with the pain of bereavement. Described as simultaneously heart-breaking and hilarious, Did Ye Hear Mammy Died? went to the top of the Irish Times bestseller list in its first week of publication and remained there for seven weeks. It won Biography of the Year at the An Post Irish Book Awards 2021.

 

Anne Flaherty: A journalist born in London and growing up in County Clare, Anne has worked for The Irish Press in Dublin and  The Irish Times in Belfast as well as reporting from  Africa and Asia.  She is a graduate of  Trinity College Dublin and holds an MA in Anglo-Irish Writing from Queen’s University Belfast and an MA in Children’s  Literature from the University of Surrey.
