Neither ‘Floozy’ nor ‘Tart’ – the descriptions given to the pitifully few sculptures of historical
Irish female figures in Dublin – Maud Gonne, a monumental Irish Nationalist woman, has yet
to be memorialised!
The campaign for a statue began last year, led by Orna Ross, and supported by historians,
academics and writers worldwide.
Let’s do our bit to celebrate her contribution, as an English-born woman, to the cause of Irish
freedom.
